KatherineKatherine is one of the larger towns in the Northern Territory. it is located on the main highway between darwin and Alice Springs, about five hours drive south from darwin and at the southern end of Kakadu National Park. The town itself is a short distance from the majestic Katherine Gorge which is one of the icons of the Northern Territory's tourism attractions. Katherine provides an accommodation and transport base for tours and travellers coming to see the gorge. The local Aboriginal people conduct tours of the gorge every day. There is an information center in the national Park where you can obtain geographical and cultural information as well as booking tours and cruises through the gorge itself. Katherine Gorge should be on every travellers list of places to visit in the Northern Territory. |
